Country Lanes Duluth

Todd Savoy, flanked by his two sons Brady and Ryan

Bowling is truly a family sport.

The 17th annual Country Holiday Classic started out with the usual anticipation of 89 hopeful champion bowlers. Our thanksgiving weekend tournament turned into something special this year. Having been in the bowling business for 33 years, this years ending was something I will never forget, it was a truly memorable weekend for spectators and especially for the well known bowling family of Todd Savoy from Superior, Wi..

After a 5-game qualifier, the field of 89 bowlers was cut to the top 16 bowlers. A double elimination single game format followed. After some very close exciting matches, the final 3 bowlers left in the field where the Savoy family trio of father Todd and his two sons Brady and Ryan. Todd was the undefeated qualifying leader with Ryan and Brady competing in the semi-finals for a chance to beat their legendary bowling hall of fame father. Ryan edged his brother 214 to 187. Todd’s wife Pam and her father Chuck along with some very interested spectators were waiting to see who would claim the title. In the final match Ryan needed to defeat his dad twice to claim the championship. Ryan proved his ability by defeating his father in the first game 238 to 226. In the final game Todd provided his son Ryan with some good ribbing and a lesson in the sport. He defeated his son 237 to 183. Todd ultimately said it would have been really fun to watch his two sons duke it out for the championship. The bragging rights over the next few years at thanksgiving dinner will be a little more special for Todd though.

Bowling is the ultimate family sport, just ask the Savoy’s how special it can be. Thank you for providing a memorable day.
