Thinking back to the late 50's, a gentleman by the name of Bill Baden who owned a small 12 lane bowling center in Richfield decided that he wanted to sponsor a team in every straight away league possible. His other brilliant idea was that he would have a roll off for all the top young bowlers in the twin city area to decide how he would put them on teams in the individual leagues. About a hundred of the finest young bowlers showed up for these roll offs. And after several games and evaluating the talent he divided them up into teams of 7 and placed them in scratch leagues throughout the metro. He placed 8 teams in leagues throughout the area some with great success others not so much. But all were outfitted with matching logoed shirts and slacks and tried to conform to a code that Mr. Baden had set up for his bowling teams. This enterprise probably cost Mr. Baden a considerable amount of money but was a unique way of getting his bowling center recognized throughout the metro. When you think of sponsorships like Bogart’s, Lind's, Huikio's, Visionary, MN Bowling, A-Z, & Ontrack Pro Shops you think of the ownership of these businesses hopefully getting their name out in front of the bowling community. I believe Mr. Baden did this with his unique idea and the sponsors of the other top teams of today have done the same thing. Thanks for letting reminisce.

Bob

P.S. I believe Grandpa was one of the bowlers on one of these teams.

In grandpa's behalf that team was the number one team Bill Baden sponsored and bowled at East Side Lanes ( mpls all star league) Old bongo did bowl on one of the teams on the bottom of the list but still proud to be sponsored by Badens Bowling Center.

Grandapa, did not realize Ron Olson was a member of that team. I think he is the only one left here locally from that team now that you are in Winona. I think that is where you are . Saw him at Tex a few weeks back and caught up on some things.
