The 14th annual Minnesota Queens tournament was held on January 8th at Elsie’s in Minneapolis. 33 women competed in this year’s event, competing on the USBC White Pattern #2.
Lisa Noor led the qualifying with a 6 game total of 1407, throwing the only two 700’s thrown in qualifying, 706 and 701. It took a score of +34 to make the cut to the top 16 match play. Match play was a double elimination, single game format. Scores were quite high and many matches very tightly contested. Angela Chirpich, Urbandale, IA., made it into the finals going undefeated through match play and waiting for an hour to find out who her opponent would be. Angela had previously defeated Lisa Noor in round 3 of matchplay, 256-252, sending Lisa into the loser’s bracket. This would be a forecast of what was to come as Lisa fought back through the loser’s bracket to earn the spot in the final match. Lisa would now have to defeat Angela twice in the finals to win, and that is exactly what the former Team USA veteran did, winning both matches to earn the victory and a paid entry into the USBC Queens Tournament, April 19-24th in Euless, TX.
Thanks to everyone that attended and everyone that competed. It was the largest turnout for a Queen’s tournament in the last four years, and hopefully a sign of things to come. Special thanks to Tim Tuttle and the staff at Elsie’s for their support and hospitality in hosting the tournament. Also special thanks to co-sponsors of the MWST, Brunswick and DV8 bowling for their donation of the ball for the raffle and also for their presence at the tournament, as Area Product Specialist Jason Guest of Brunswick/DV8 was on hand to personally present the ball and watch the tournament. Other sponsors of the tournament deserving thanks and recognition are:
Mikes Pro Shop – trophy for the High Qualifier, Champion and Runner-Up
Linds – Gift certificate for performance shoe/3 ball roller bag
Midway Pro Shop – Champions jacket
